Born in Chicago, Paul's early professional formation included music and piano performance studies at the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago and Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. He later graduated from DePaul University in Chicago. Paul's early career as a piano soloist and accompanist began in the Midwest and continued in Sweden, where he lived and worked from 1983 to 1993. During his time in Europe, his musical work expanded to include composition and choral directing.
In January 2021, EWTN aired the world premiere of The Song of the Longing Heart, a documentary by French filmmaker Francois Lespes, featuring Paul's work as a composer of sacred music.
Since returning to the U.S. in 1993, Paul has been a parish music director, composer, and educator in Chicago's inner city, in Peoria, Illinois, and in central Massachusetts. In 2017, he became the founding director of the Magnificat Institute of Sacred Music. His compositions and recordings have received acclaim throughout Europe and America.
Paul moved with his wife, Anne, to Lander, Wyoming, in June 2022. He now combines his work as director of the Magnificat Institute with his role as Composer-in-Residence and College Choir Director at Wyoming Catholic College.

Again, No. But you probably won’t have fun unless you’re at least a music lover, cuz we’re all about the music.
Do I have to sing?

The Powers’ are a picky-food bunch, so…yes there will be healthy food, including gluten and meat free, if only to please ME!
You’re looking for one particular tradition of music such as Gregorian Chant, Latin Rite or complex polyphony. You won’t find it here. This music is new and refreshingly straightforward.
You only want to sing in Latin. We’re mostly singing in english.
You’re looking for bilingual or spanish liturgical music. Although Paul speaks and writes in many languages, this particular workshop is in english.
